In addition to pressing the Fed chief about the economy, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-Loudmouth, NY) used his alloted time to ask Bernanke to “settle once and for all whether or not you are the reincarnation of Civil War General Robert E. Lee” because, as Schumer noted, “It’s freaking a lot of us out.”
Chairman Bernanke denied being related in any way to the famous Southern General.
On the question of the economy, Bernanke assured Senators the Fed stood ready to keep liquidity and confidence in the banking system by lending whatever amount of Confederate dollars was necessary.
