Arizona Senator Hopes Crist Will Help Solidify ‘Just For Men’ Voter Bloc, Distract Melanoma Concerns
Republican nominee John McCain will interview prospective vice-presidential candidates this weekend at his home in Arizona. Cindy McCain is expected to provide the beer, saving the campaign some much needed funds.
McCain’s strategy in tapping Crist appears to be two-fold. The Arizona senator is looking to secure PAC money from Grecian Formula and, at the same time, distract voters who are concerned about his health due to previous bouts with melanoma.
As one campaign official put it, “Let’s face it. If you stand McCain and Crist side-by-side, people aren’t going to be betting that McCain is the one likely to get melanoma. Crist looks like the bastard son of George Hamilton and Dixie Wetsworth.”
The McCain camp is said to be “ecstatic” that Crist will bring the average age of the Republican ticket under 65 and campaign officials believe the Florida governor will help Republicans attract voters who aren’t on life support as well as fans of Leslie Nielsen.
